Kelly Desmond Turner begins her eighth season on the sidelines as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the Huskies. A former Vermont standout, Desmond was an assistant coach at Harvard University before coming to Northeastern.
In both of Desmond’s seasons with the Crimson, Harvard qualified for the NCAA Tournament and was nationally ranked. As a player, Desmond was a four-year starter at Vermont, captaining the team as a senior in 1997. She earned All-New England, All-Northeast and All-America East honors during her career. She helped guide the Catamounts to one of their most successful seasons in 1996 when the team won the America East regular season crown.
Desmond did not stop competing after college; she trained with the Boston Renegades after leaving UVM. She also currently coaches the U15 South Coast Scorpions and U15 Premier and Elite youth soccer teams. She was one of the Massachusetts Olympic Develpment Staff in 2008-09, and directions soccer camps around New England. In addition to coaching, Desmond completed her Master's Degree at Northeastern in May 2009.
Besides playing soccer, Desmond likes to run and has completed nine marathons. She continues to run road races in her free time. Desmond graduated from Vermont in 1997 with a degree in Psychology and a minor in Small Business Management. She has also earned her NSCAA National and Advanced National Coaching Licenses.
Desmond resides in South Boston, MA with her husband Francis Turner.
