Kelly Desmond, a former University of Vermont standout, begins her fourth season
on the sidelines as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the Huskies. Before coming to Northeastern, Desmond was an assistant coach at Harvard University. In the two years she was there, Harvard had two NCAA appearances and was a top 25-ranked team in the nation.
Desmond was a four-year starter at Vermont, captaining the team as a senior in 1997. She earned All-New England, All-Northeast, and All-America East honors during her career, and helped guide the Catamounts to one of their most successful seasons in 1996 when the team won the America East regular season crown.
Desmond did not stop competing after college; she trained with the Boston Renegades after leaving UVM. Currently she plays with Opus County women's soccer club.
Desmond also coaches youth soccer teams and directs soccer camps around New England. Desmond is a technical director and a head coach of a U13 Girls Soccer team in Massachusetts. She is a member of the Spirit of Massachusetts Girls Soccer Club. In addition to coaching, she is pursuing a Master's Degree in Psychology here at Northeastern. Besides playing soccer, Desmond also likes to run, having completed seven marathons. She continues to run road races in her free time.
Desmond graduated from Vermont in 1997 with a degree in Psychology and a minor in Small Business Management. She has also earned her NSCAA National Coaching LIcense.
