Huskies qualify for Academic Award

The women’s soccer team qualified for the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Team Academic Award for the fifth consecutive year with a combined GPA of 3.39. To earn national recognition, a team must have a combined GPA of 3.0.
The 2008 Huskies had a turnaround season going 13-9-2 after going 4-11-3 in 2007. They won their first-ever CAA Championship and made it to the second round in their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance. The Huskies not only improved on the field but also in the classroom raising their team GPA from 3.36 in 2007 to 3.39 in 2008.
Along with the NSCAA Award, the Huskies also achieved the CAA Championship and had two freshmen in Veronica Napoli and Gabbi Jatkola named to the All-CAA third team and All-CAA Rookie team. Napoli was also awarded with the prestigious Rookie of the Year Award. Emilee Ellison, Stephanie Gordon, Jenna Lucchesi and Tinna Nielsen were all named to the All-Tournament team and Luccesi also walked away with Tournament MVP honors. Most recently, Brenna Matthews was named to the NEWISA Senior Bowl, which will take place Sunday, Dec. 7 at 11 a.m.
