Boston, Mass.
Northeastern University freshman, Veronica Napoli, has been named third team All-American by the NSCAA/adidas committee for the first time in program history. Napoli earned the honor after leading the Huskies this season with 12 goals, five assists and 29 points.
Napoli was recently named to the NSCAA/adidas All-Northeast team and earned the CAA Rookie of the Year Award. Along with teammate Gabbi Jatkola, Napoli was also named to the All-CAA third team and the All-CAA Rookie team. The speedy freshman scored her first collegiate hat trick in an overtime win against Drexel.
The All-America selections will be recognized at the annual All-America Luncheon, to be held in St. Louis, Mo., on Saturday, Jan. 17, as part of the 2009 NSCAA Convention.
The Huskies are coming off their best season in program history. They won the CAA Championship and made it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the first-time ever. The Huskies also posted a nine win improvement and scored 28 more goals than in 2007.
Prior to Northeastern, Napoli played for the Prout School where she holds records in career goals (128) and assists (50). She was an All-State first team selection her final two years and a second-team All-State in her sophomore year. The team went 19-0 and won the state title her sophomore year as well. Napoli attended the Region I Olympic Development Pool for 2007-08 and participated in the Rhode Island State Olympic Development Program from 2006-08.
