Brenna Matthews named to senior bowl

Northeastern senior Brenna
Matthews was named to the division 1 NEWISA Senior Soccer Bowl, the
association announced Thursday. The game will be held at Salem State
College on Sunday, Dec. 7, at 11 a.m.
Matthews was named a Co-Captain
for the 2008 Huskies along with Emilee Ellison. Matthews scored her
first goal of the season on a penalty kick to defeat Creighton 2-1 and
she scored her second goal against Towson on Oct. 3.
Over her career at Northeastern,
Matthews has played in 73 games and tallied a 5-2-12 scoring line.
Known for her tough consistent defense, Matthews was a big reason for
the success of the team.
The Huskies had a standout year
as the team completed its best season in program history with a 13-9-2
record and won the CAA Championship before losing to Boston College in
the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Before Northeastern, Matthews
played varsity soccer during all four years of high school at Oliver
Ames. She was a three time Hockomock League All-Star and earned
Brockton Enterprise All-Scholastic honors twice. Matthews was also
named Enterprise Player of the Year in her senior season and was the
recipient of Boston Herald All-Scholastic. She was a member of the
Massachusetts All-Star first team and an All-State All-Star.
