Nov. 20, 2008
Boston, Mass.

Northeastern senior Brenna Matthews was named to the division 1 NEWISA Senior Soccer Bowl, the association announced Thursday. The game will be held at Salem State College on Sunday, Dec. 7, at 11 a.m.

Matthews was named a Co-Captain for the 2008 Huskies along with Emilee Ellison. Matthews scored her first goal of the season on a penalty kick to defeat Creighton 2-1 and she scored her second goal against Towson on Oct. 3.

Over her career at Northeastern, Matthews has played in 73 games and tallied a 5-2-12 scoring line. Known for her tough consistent defense, Matthews was a big reason for the success of the team.

The Huskies had a standout year as the team completed its best season in program history with a 13-9-2 record and won the CAA Championship before losing to Boston College in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Before Northeastern, Matthews played varsity soccer during all four years of high school at Oliver Ames. She was a three time Hockomock League All-Star and earned Brockton Enterprise All-Scholastic honors twice. Matthews was also named Enterprise Player of the Year in her senior season and was the recipient of Boston Herald All-Scholastic. She was a member of the Massachusetts All-Star first team and an All-State All-Star.
