Former Northeastern track & field star and current assistant coach Zara Northover recently won
the shot put at the Jamaica National Senior Championship in Kingston,
Jamaica. Northover had a season-best throw of 53'4.5 to win the competition.
Northover will next compete at the Central American and Caribbean Track & Field Senior Championship July 3-5 in Havana, Cuba, with the hopes of qualifying for Jamaica's World

Last year, Northover competed for Jamaica in the Olympics in Beijing and threw the shot put 52'0 to finish 16th in her flight. She is the first alumna in Northeastern history to compete in women's track & field in the Olympics.
On the collegiate level, Northover went undefeated at the
conference level racking up four America East titles and two CAA championships. She also won four New England titles, four ECAC titles and set
the NU record of 55'0.75.
Northover qualified for the NCAA Championship five times, her best finish coming in 2007 when she placed 10th in the shot put.
Northover joined head coach Sherman Hart's track & field staff in 2007.
