Northeastern’s Seri Gordon earned a Bronze medal last week in the open 800-meter at the 18th Maccabiah Games in Ramat Gan, Israel. The 2009 games brought more than 6000 Jewish athletes from around the world to compete for the gold in Ramat Gan stadium.

The games began in 1932 after the Stockholm Olympic Games inspired Yosef Yekutieli to create a Jewish version of the events. Following a hiatus from 1935 – 1950, the games have taken place every four years since the emergence of an independent Israel.

Gordon, a middle distance runner, participated in the games following an impressive 2008-09 season with the Huskies. At the CAA championship, she ran a season best 2:15.55 split to qualify for the 800-meter final where she placed sixth. At the New England Championship, Gordon competed with the runner-up 4x800-meter relay team. In addition to her 800-meter success, she placed third in the 500-meter at the Colonial Invitational.

Gordon will look to build on her international success when she returns to Northeastern for her junior year this fall.
